I confess that I prefer the native blackberries to the "invasive" ones. They really are better but yes more thorns and they run along the ground, so more difficult to ;pick. But a fond of memory of mine is picking these native ones with my dad and making blackberry pie. YUM and there is a difference - a bit more tart and smaller seeds. We still have native blackberries here on Hat island, as well as LOTS of Himalayas. But I always take the time to pick enough native ones for a pie, deal with the thorns and make a pie to remember my dad as this was his favorite kind.

Unfortunately the thorns of our times make it sometimes difficult to see any luscious blackberries. But reading your writing, getting out and walking every day to "touch the grass" really helps. Laurie
